I write romance novels–historical and contemporary, western and urban. Don’t get me wrong, I love it. But when I had an opportunity to write an action/adventure hoped to rival The DaVinci Code and Angels and Demons, I jumped at the chance. Brad and I collaborated on this book for several years, a story intended to tweak the noses of evolutionists just as Dan Brown had intended to tweak the noses of Bible believers. Brad did all the research into Creationism and wrote all the scenes presenting his findings.
And I got to write the good stuff.
Nail-biting chases and bruising fights and bare-teethed escapes from danger, even sizzling electricity between the two main characters, all while battling men who were just the outer layer of the conspiracy onion… It was unparalleled fun for this ol’ romance writer.
But we made some errors. For one, we scrapped the original title of Bones of Contention for the more cryptic The Simulacrum. A simulacrum is an image that only hints of its true object. A distortion of the actual. But most readers don’t know that, and the title immediately became an obstacle.
The cover itself, representative of a human skull found among dinosaur bones, turned out to be an obstacle too. Without understanding what the book is about, it seems sinister in a manner not intended.
Hence the give-away.
I love this book, despite its mistakes, despite the fact it promised a sequel that never happened, and I hate the idea that the rest of my inventory is destined for the burn pile. If you like action/adventure novels, too, contact me. I will send you a copy that will cost you nothing more than postage.
